The Three PE Files
There are three files: PE1, PE2, and PE3.The automatically marked objective questions are the same in all three files, but they are programmed as: Review Exercises in PE1; Practice Exercises in PE2; and Assessment Exercises in PE3; differing in the way they can be used by students and staff. All can be completed either on screen or on paper, individually or as a class.
PE 1 - Complete Course
This consists of: Review Exercises, Question Boxes, and Longer Style Questions, all with answers, all integrated within the complete board specific PE Text. Review Exercises are integrated into the text, so that students can work through and attempt the questions as they read each Unit. Responses are scored automatically, running totals are visible and answers can be accessed at any point by dragging the cursor over the question numbers/letters. If extra support is needed, the relevant sections of the PE text are immediately available. Students also have the option to go straight to the Review Exercises and test their knowledge. Throughout the main text there are Question Boxes which require longer answers usually in the context of physical activity. Sample answers can be revealed for comparison with students’ own by dragging the cursor over the question mark of each Question Box. Longer Questions contain a mixture of styles. Model answers are provided at a click of the mouse. Self assessment of the Question Boxes and Longer Style Questions provides experience of critical self-appraisal. PE1 will be used primarily for learning, revision and review.
PE2 - Practice Exercises
This file consists of the Exercises only. Here scores and answers can be displayed on screen after an exercise has been completed. PE2 would be of most use for exam practice, & self-assessment of progress.
PE3 - Assessment Exercises
In these, scoring is automated but not displayed on screen. Instead, marked student responses, with scores and correct answers are available only when exercises have been completed and printed. A summary of student scores in one or more exercises can be printed off as a record of their performance. PE3 replicates an exam assessment as far as possible using ICT, and is thus intended as a diagnostic and assessment tool.
